Tucson's-Ebony City

We Exist to Serve Our CommUNITY

Hello,
As you know I will be moving to the area in August. As it stands it looks like my daughter will be attending Holaway Elementary in the Amphitheater School District. Can anyone tell me about this school? Would you recommend this district? Please share your experience with the school district and that school in particular. Anything that you can share would be great.
Thanks,
Amber G :)

Hello Amber,

And, welcome to the "neighborhood!" I have lived in Tucson for 17 years and am on the far east side of town. However, Amphi School District (as it is referred to locally) has a pretty good reputation among parents. I imagine they have more money to fund various activities, but friends who work there and children we know who attend there seem to agree that the schools are pretty good.

As you may know, however, Arizona is not known for it's wonderful school systems---education in this state is one of the areas that needs much improvement. However, Amphi schools are said to be really good and if you are at all involved in your child's education, you can supplement her assignments with books, movies, discussions, the computer and whatever else you can think of.

On a regular day, you may not find too many of us Black Folk because we are very few in number, unless you go to Phoenix. However, if you continue to post to this website, you can find out much info about our community. So, again I welcome you and your daughter and hope you enjoy your stay in Tucson. Be sure to let any of us on this website know if you need something. Most of us are connected enough to the community that we can likely steer you in the right direction.

Blessings,
Dolores
