Hello Bill,
The photographs brings the magnitude of his abuse to a head for me.
Many say that if a man hits you once, he will hit you again.
There are no absolutes.
I believe that a man who hits you once and agrees to get "treatment" after the first time, deserves forgiveness and a second chance. If it happens again, the end is inevitable.
However, any man or woman who hits a partner without demonstrated remorse (as in seeking treatment) must be let go.
She has issued a statement that his admission of having a problem and agreement to get treatment is the basis of her remaining in the relationship.
Somehow the media is choosing not to highlight that aspect of the reconciliation.
I am with her forgiving based on his remorse and willingness to get treatment.

Delete It has been said that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure and in a large number of instances, that has been proven true! I believe that it is better to err on the side of proven percentages and to that end, I believe it is time for us as a society to institute some Human Behavior Classes in our Public School System. Health classes alone where we're only taught the mechanics of physical relations and given warnings with respect to VD while receiving condoms and birth control doesn't begin to address the more important issues governing the maturation process and concerning what a loving relationship even is or how to have and maintain one. I think that living in a lust-driven God-less society caused this incident and society must address it soberly and must take responsibility to include some safeguards for its prevention in the future. Organization participation should include school sytems, churches, after-school programs and PSAs.

There's no justification for violence (physical, verbal or mental) in civilized society period, be it a man against a woman or a woman against a man and to demonize the man is too much of a convenient public scapegoat because we never publicly hear of cases to the contrary but they do exists! In this particular case, the incident is made all the more public so that the racial stereo-type can be reinforced, namely, that "Black men are brutes and brutish, it's somehow just a part of his nature." Quietly, this has been sub-consciously perpetuated so much so that even we've come to expect it and I submit that for your consideration and contemplation... Black men are not brutes and We have anything but a bruttish nature, We love our mothers, sisters and especially our wives and are protective of our children, daughters and sons! I don't know what issues led to the temporary insanity which caused this incident but I do know that this society is to blame! Frustration is nothing to ignore nor is it anything with which to play or induce. We now stand at a cross-roads and hope that this tragedy serves to awaken us fully cause no one can have it both ways! We have to be real men and real women, single parent households headed by the woman alone do not work! A woman cannot be a man anymore than a man can be a woman. God had a good reason for His design and we don't have the capacity or the right to second guess Him or try to redesign that which we did not and cannot re-create!

There are rules which we've forgotten or misplaced and too many things have been and are now traditionally being left to chance right upfront. Folk need to openly spell out all issues honestly and honorably before and at the very beginning of a relationship and junior high and high school human behavioral instruction needs to be instituted using role-play classes governed by a moderator who teaches the acceptable standards for appropriate and inappropriate behavior, those absolutes which are currently being overlooked, as exemplary mandates prior to role-play.

We've been skirting around this domestic violence issue and the causes responsible (insecurity, control, manipulation, infidelity and why revenge is never acceptable) for much too long and it's time that corrective action begins in the formulative stages as early as in elementary school or even before and continues so that it becomes ingrained as a part of our human makeup. Society must take responsibility for learning to respect itself by reforming and re-teaching itself what respect really is.

Checking in after the fact is an all too comfortable repetitive exercise in futility. We all know that what happened to both of these young people was wrong and the photos bring it to our attention, full-force! Notably and even more sadly, it's only because these folk are public figures and control wealth that we even bother to care 'cause poor people go through this all the time and no one says or does anything. Their incidents don't make the news. Everyone's too busy to care -- but let it happen to a public figure or figures and we're all of a sudden concerned. What sort of folk have we really become? Actions speak louder than words and MONEY does talk but a little too much in my opinion!

Time out and time to put a stop to the madness and eliminate all of our "pretentious" confusion. Time to address this issue once and for all so that it becomes a non-issue! As Creative People, it's OUR Mission to address and provide the Solution and not simply go back and forth discussing the problem!
