African American retirees of Tucson Greetings!

The value of this site never cease to amaze me, even after so short an existance. As we continue to ponder what is happening in our schools today, the topic of what worked back in the day constantly arise. We at the Arizona Informant would like to hear your thoughts on why schools are "failing" today. What do you all feel are viable solutions to this issue. Some might say charter schools? Personally I am a proponent of public schools. When we talk monies (volchers) and tell parents/students to go to the school of their choice (usually across town), it weakens the communities that they are leaving. Choice in education is not all bad, but when it is paraded as the "answer" that can be a problem. And for those listening to the recent convention - that was the answer offered by McCain to fix schools.

What do you all think? As the youth say today, Holler back at me when you can.
