Sweet Willie D. Contact DIRECT by phone 624-6452 and ask to speak to an advocate for people with disabilities, and they will direct you to someone who will evaluate your issues and pass them along to the right people.

My wife is unable to walk (or dance) and uses a mobility scooter (pimped out) to get around. We've heard the city of Tucson just recently adopted the ADA laws about handicapped accessibility issues. We encourage any person with limited abilities to get together and let the city know what we need. Have you noticed how far the handicapped parking spaces are from the businesses, especially in strip malls. The sidewalks are in disrepair in many areas. When she goes scooting with friends, they usually ride in the bus lane to avoid too much jostling and to avoid being scratched by the trees that need trimming. And, these handicapped ramps at intersections -- please, if anyone who experiences pain when going over bumps, you just as well stay home. Have you seen any braille signs anywhere except for some elevators, or recorded messages? And, folks with Chron's or colitis, where can you find a public restroom? What about invisible disabilities like mental illness?

As a Board member of DIRECT the Center for independent living for the disabled, I'd like to know what kind of program/project/activity This group is proposing?
