Personal Bio
This is my heart, this is my passion. A combination of the 2 greatest gifts.....Children, and a crown of glory (hair). What would a woman do without her kids and hair? Hahaha. I started working with children in Aug. 2004 at Exclusive Touch Salon and then left to further develope my skills while attending beauty school. Once i graduated in 2005, i went straight into Marilyn's Hair Design Salon (MHD). Never being heavy handed, my base clientele became children, teens, men, and anyone tender headed....lol. Also those who've decided to grow their hair out naturally (like myself). I've lived in this dry desert called Tucson, AZ all my life so i know firsthand that it CAN do some fatal things to our hair.

I specialize in Natural Haircare and how to maintain moisture in the heat. Just a short journey back into my life, before getting serious about hair, i was loving the property management area of real estate. I was working as a Leasing consultant and studying to become a broker. In 2004 the desire to become "my own boss" took over, so i became a Mary Kay consultant. I did so many facials and met so many people who assumed that because i was "black" i did hair, or knew someone who did. So, i started braiding hair out of my apartment. What started as a part time supplement to income, became a fulltime profession. As business grew, i moved into Experts Salon where i met Marilyn and Tonya Twine. Shortly after that, i moved to Exclusive Touch Salon with Yvonne Harvey and grew further into my new profession. I assumed everyone could braid and thought my braiding was "average". I didn't understand that it was a gift until the women started asking "how do you do that, "how do you braid like that?" and "don't your hands and wrists hurt?". As wth anything, after a while i wanted more and i wanted to be able to do more with my braiding. I wanted to explore all possibilities and not limit myself to just individual braids. So in 2005 I enrolled into Beauty School to become licensed but they were afraid of "black" hair and surely had a hard time teaching it.....LOL. So post graduation in Jan 2006 I began working for Marilyn Epps-Bullock owner of Marilyn's Hair Design (MHD), where I've learned so much. She took the time to teach, show, train, and pour into me some of what she has learned over the years. These are the things and experiences that last a lifetime and cannot be traded for anything. Now i am able to do the same.

I was on my way home one evening when one of my friends asked me to stop by her salon and help her braid a little girls hair. When i walked in the little girl was crying, and she too was almost in tears. I helped her by finishing the little girls hair, but she had REALLY BAD chemical burns on her scalp. When mom walked in, mom was (no offense-but) caucasian. I asked her what happend and.....Long story short, Their family communicated through sign. The husband is hearing impared, and they adopted a brother and sister from Ethiopia that are hearing impared, and a little girl from China that was also hearing impared. But, they put a relaxer in her hair that got on her scalp and let it process for 30minutes. I asked the mother to ask her if it stung or burned at all, and the little girl responded by shaking her head no, but we saw the end result. The parent honestly didn't know and thought they were doing the right thing. So I decided to have the haircare classes to teach families in this type of situation, but that wasn't enough. Kids and their parents have a short tolerance for each other in this delicate area of life called "come on now, let's get your hair done".....
Tell us about business
....So, Not Forgotten was born in June of 2008. It's a non-profit organization that specializes in haircare for children in group homes, foster homes, or have been adopted. And to make life easier on the parents, I will be having monthly or Bi-weekly classes to educated the parents (and older teenagers) on how to care for their hair whether it be on a regular basis or in between salon visits. All people are welcome as well. If you know of anyone in need of assistance with hair, please contact me at 520-358-7746.
