We Exist to Serve Our CommUNITY

Okay let me start with Where the hell is that village.
We talk commUNITY? Or it takes a village. Where in the hell is that village
But I REALIZE we say things we don't really mean. We say them
Today cause it just a pharse we use.Cause I know a member of this commUNITY
that really needed help. She is a WIDOW a woman of standards, and
She has a son who is not quit well and he can't left havey objects.
I went to help her cause she is a member of this commUNITY.
Where is our commUNITY. Where are the Men in this commUNITY.
I did it not for glory or to get under this woman.
The Reason I did it was for God and yes country.and a honset heart,I really felt in my soul
she really needed my help.
My brothers she needed your help to.
We use to help the women and children of our
COMMUNITY. What appen to that?

Thank you, Larry, for your blog. It is truly powerful!

I think it is sad that not only am I writing the only response to this blog so far, but it has not been considered important enough to be spotlighted or highlighted so that it can be widely read. I am aware of many Black families who suffer in silence, because the Anglo community can, sometimes, be unresponsive; but, the Black community does not appear to be any better at times.

I heard a talk about 6 months ago from a profoundly, bigotted woman who claimed that Blacks miss out on the "good stuff" because "Blacks just don't read!" Don't know how true that is, but that was her assertion. Her second comment, however, was that the other reason Black people miss out is that "they have thrown away their own cultural standard of interdependence in favor of the White standard of independence...survival of the fittest. They defeat themselves and their so-called Brothers and Sisters." As much as I hate what she stands for, the woman has a point: in this small enclave of Black citizens, do we reach out to one another in times of need?

So, what do we do, those of us who need help. Do we continue to suffer in silence, fairly certain that our own Black Brothers and Sisters will look the other way? And, for those who are highly successful, respected members of the community at large, what happens when YOU fall on hard times? Will you expect folks to rise up and give to you what you refused to give to others?

I believe it is so important to share the love of Jesus ESPECIALLY when there is crisis. Christ, himself, said He came for the sick. Struggling folks can become spiritually sick, needing prayer, reassurance, phone calls, notes, a meal, flowers, a ride, basically the love of Jesus Christ. There are many ways to touch a person's life to help him/her hold on to their faith. Just letting a person know you care about what is happening to him/her can raise the spirits of someone facing challenges and trials.

May we all prayerfully consider the comments of my Brother, Larry, and examine our own hearts and lives for evidence of Christ's Love in Action. Ask yourself: Am I so busy in my life that I have no time to help God's Children when they need help? Am I acting as God's hands and feet in this community?

Blessings,
Dolores
